Antill Family History
Antill Complete Marine Services is the legacy of a family business. It stems from a rich history of sailors that go as far back as Captain Henry Colden Antill who was the aide-de-camp to Govenor Macquarie. But more recently, the past three generations have a strong footing in the yachting and marine industry.
FIRST GENERATION
My grandfather, Harry Antill was the founder of H.C.ANTILL SAILS and he made quite a name for himself as a sailmaker and sailor in Pittwater and Sydney, in particular the Star and Dragon classes.
SECOND GENERATION
My father, Robert Antill who also is a sailmaker, competed at the elite level of class racing, as well as Americas Cups, and also winning the Admirals Cup with Syd Fisher in 1979.
THIRD GENERATION
Jason Antill is the managing director of Antill International Marine, the Australian distributor of Dufour yachts. Jason has also been very competitive in the Etchell class, competing in a number of world championships. Robert, Jason and Joel Antill competed in the 2004 Etchell worlds in Mooloolaba.
Joel Antill. I have over 15 years in the marine industry, holding a master 5 ticket for the past 6 years. I have a wide range of experience including charters in the Whitsundays, heavy tackle game fishing in Cairns and light tackle game fishing on the NSW coast. I have significant experience crewing white boats and managing vessel refits and I have competed in two Etchell world championships.
"I am looking to pass this experience on to you, to make your boating safer and more enjoyable." Joel Antill
Testimonials
What a trip!
Our plan as novice sailors was to hop from port to port on our first sailing season from Brisbane to the Whitsundays. Happily we bumped into Joel who had come up to Brisbane to check our new yacht over at the end of our warranty period.
Having listened to the many questions we had about what we might expect suggested that as he had a few weeks to spare he’d be happy to accompany us for the trip if we wanted.
Did we ever!
Our experience with Joel as the bloke who commissioned our boat and was always ready to help with any question we had about (and years on still does) we did not hesitate
Not only did Joel prove to be an immensely able, patient and practical sailing guide he can also fish and, best of all, cook like a champion
We got to places in conditions far from anything we would have been able or game to tackle, and enjoyed the best of food and company along the way, not to mention learning so much about what our yacht could do, and how to make it do it.
We still have a lot to learn (who doesn’t?) but following our time with Joel are quite comfortable in conditions we would have previously been very worried about. Now all we need to do is learn to cook and fish
If you get the chance to work with Joel, in any capacity (Skipper, Manager, Cook (or should that be Chef) or Fishing Guide) we recommend that you grab it. He’s fussy and knowledgable on all fronts and that suits us very well.
